DR Booster Tutorial

DR Booster helps you find real backlink opportunities. There are two ways to grow your Ahrefs Domain Rating: guest posts (write for high-DR sites) and journalist queries (get quoted in major media). Both get you do-follow backlinks from authoritative domains.

Guest Post Finder

  1. Enter your niche — e.g. "crypto", "marketing", "health". Be specific.
  2. Hit "Find guest post sites" — we search 6 Google patterns like "write for us" + niche.
  3. Review results — each card shows domain, title, snippet, and a signal badge (e.g. "write for us").
  4. Check DR — use the Domain Checker tool to pull DR/DA for the list.
  5. Pitch — visit the URL, find submission guidelines, send your pitch. Most sites reply within 7 days.
Pro tip: Target domains with DR 30+ for meaningful link juice. Avoid sites with DA < 20 or Spam Score > 30 (check via Domain Checker first).

Journalist Queries (HARO)

  1. Enter your expertise — keywords like "seo backlinks", "startup funding", "crypto blockchain".
  2. Hit "Find journalist queries" — we search Featured.com, Qwoted, Terkel, and indexed HARO-style requests.
  3. Sort by relevance — results ranked by keyword match. High score = better fit.
  4. Click through — each query links to the source. Read full brief, submission deadline, and outlet.
  5. Submit your response — answer the question thoroughly (200-400 words). Include your name, title, and website. If selected, you get a backlink from Forbes, Entrepreneur, TechCrunch, etc.
Pro tip: Respond within 24 hours of the query posting. Journalists close submissions fast. Featured.com queries are the hottest—they notify you in real time.

Why this works (and how DR actually moves)

  1. Ahrefs DR is backlink-driven. The more high-DR sites link to you, the higher your DR climbs. One link from a DR 70 site = ~10 links from DR 20 sites.
  2. Guest posts = do-follow backlinks. Most "write for us" sites give you 1-2 do-follow links in your author bio or within the post. That's direct link juice.
  3. HARO = media backlinks. Getting quoted on Forbes (DR 93) or Entrepreneur (DR 92) is a single backlink worth more than 50 low-tier guest posts. Major media links = trust signal to Google + Ahrefs.
  4. Volume + quality both matter. Aim for 5-10 guest posts per month on DR 30-60 sites, plus 2-3 HARO placements per quarter on DR 70+ outlets. Your DR will move 5-15 points in 6 months.
  5. Avoid spam. Never buy links from Fiverr link farms or PBNs (Private Blog Networks). Ahrefs and Google both detect footprints. Stick to real editorial placements from this tool.
Reality check: DR is a lagging metric. You'll see movement 4-8 weeks after your backlink goes live (Ahrefs crawls the web monthly). Keep building, track in a sheet, check DR every 30 days.

Frequently asked questions

Is this data real or estimated?

100% real. We scrape Moz and Ahrefs live—no formulas, no cached data. If Moz says DA 62, you see DA 62.

How many domains can I check at once?

100 domains per run in the Domain Checker. We retry failed domains automatically, so you'll get results for all 100 (or close to it).

Do guest posts actually move DR?

Yes, if the linking site has real authority (DR 30+). One DR 60 guest post = ~5-10 DR 20 links in terms of impact. Focus on quality over volume.

What's the difference between HARO and guest posts?

Guest posts: you write a full article for their blog. HARO: you answer a journalist's question (200-400 words) and get quoted in their article. HARO links are usually higher DR (media outlets) but harder to land.

How often should I use DR Booster?

Run Guest Post Finder weekly for your niche (fresh sites get indexed constantly). Run HARO daily if you're serious—journalist queries expire in 24-72 hours.

Can I use this for competitor research?

Absolutely. Paste your competitor's backlink domains (export from Ahrefs Site Explorer) into Domain Checker to see their DA/PA/DR profile. Then use DR Booster to find the same guest post sites they used.
